GRACE TEACHES US TO SAY NO TO UNGODLINESS AND WORLDY PASSIONS

SCRIPTURE READING :  
Titus 2:11-14 NIV 
 “For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. 12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.”
 As recipients of God’s grace, we are empowered by the same grace to live in a new way that glorifies Him. We must embrace the grace of God to train us further to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions and to live lives that are self-controlled, upright, and godly.
 We must embrace the Grace of God to teach us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions!
To live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age is in one’s interest.
Jesus gave Himself for us to redeem us from iniquity and make us His people “who are zealous for good deeds.
 Oh yes! The salvation Jesus brings is not only about forgiveness but also about transformation.
Transformation may not happen overnight, but it is a long, painstaking process as we mature.
Among  the ungodliness and worldly passions” we are to renounce are disobedience, waywardness, being slaves to various passions and pleasures that don’t glorify God, passing our days in malice and envy, despicably hating one another.”
Where do such “worldly passions” still enslave us today? In the constant lure of consumption and acquisition? In the desire for power and control over others? Is fear, that drives us to demonize those who differ from us?
In contrast to being driven by worldly passions, we are to live lives that are “self-controlled, upright, and godly. It is to be obedient ready for every good work that honors God, to speak evil of no one, to avoid quarreling, to be gentle, and to show courtesy to everyone.”
We always need to be concerned about how our words and actions reflect on the church and either help or hinder our God-given mission.
Our relationships with one another, with the communities in which we live, and with the world should reflect the love of God in Jesus Christ, “who gave Himself for us that He might redeem us from all iniquity and purify for Himself a people of His own who are zealous for good deeds.
Our transformation is still a work in progress. And it comes only from the one who enters into our humanity in humility and love Lord Jesus Christ.
 *PRAYER*
Oh Lord, transform us into your very likeness. For you created us for your pleasure. Empower us to say no to ungodliness and worldly passions to your glory. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen!
 May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us now and for evermore, Amen!

Get out of your comfort zone and start living to the fullest

Many of us think of the “comfort zone” as a relic of ’80s motivational psychology or a tagline on cheesy corporate “reach for success” posters.

The comfort zone is a useful psychological concept that can help you embrace risk and make changes in your life that can lead to real personal growth.

The comfort zone is a “behavioral space where your activities and behaviors fit a routine and pattern that minimizes stress and risk” – the operative words here being stress and risk.

In our comfort zone, there is a sense of familiarity, security, and certainty.

When we step outside our comfort zone, we take a risk, and open ourselves up to the possibility of stress and anxiety; we’re not quite sure what will happen and how we will react.

We have come to see stress as a dirty word – but a little bit of healthy stress can act as a reagent for growth and be a powerful motivator to act.

While staying in your comfort zone can result in a consistent, steady performance, stepping out of your comfort zone into a new and challenging task can create the conditions for optimal performance.

Think about it: Did you ever do something you were proud of when you were in autopilot mode?

In an increasingly competitive, cautious, and accelerated world, those who are willing to take risks step out of their comfort zone and into the discomfort of uncertainty will be those who will reap the biggest rewards.

Stepping out of your comfort zone even once makes it easier and more likely that you will do it again (and again!).

Today I want to send you a simple message; step out of your comfort zone and own it.

Do one thing that you don’t feel like doing or that scares you.

Make that call, smile, or say good morning to someone when you are too busy, find something you are simply avoiding, and do it.

Deborah Freeman is favored to win the MUSIGA Presidency

A presidential aspirant contesting the musicians union of Ghana’s upcoming election Mrs. Deborah Freeman is highly tipped of becoming the next president of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA).

Speaking at Kumasi cultural center today after the launch of her manifesto, members of the Ashanti regional MUSIGA bemoaned that they have suffered as musicians under previous administration and are in high spirit that the time has come for Deborah to come and liberate them.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with our reporter, Mrs. Freeman lamented that musicians are stars but they end up regretting of being musicians because of unsustainable policies.

Launching the manifesto, Mrs. Freeman said as a Woman, full of potentials, I am enthused by the fact that I can deliver and I would, therefore, have no reason not to perform when given the opportunity. I am known to be resolute, workaholic and result-oriented. As a Trade Unionist, I have been trained to have a stronger voice especially when it comes to advancing the course and promoting the interest of members. I am ready to grab the opportunity. I will be the President. 

I have the track record and I can make a difference as the President of the Union. I am a mother and I am full of love and care. Motherhood has made me even better and this translates into the extra length I can go to get results in every of my endeavors. Taking up the mantle as the President of the Union is yet another task I can perform spectacularly for the kind of person I know myself to be and also the capacity that I have built. She added.

Dr. James Kwegyir Aggrey said,” If you educate a man you educate an individual, but if you educate a Woman you educate a whole Nation”. Brigham Young could also not be wrong by saying: “You educate a man, you Educate a man, You Educate a Woman; you educate a generation”. When given the nod, the Woman in me will transform MUSIGA to the admiration of all. She whispered.

The projects she envisage to undertake during her 1st four year term are based on the five key thematic areas mentioned include, Stakeholders’ engagement. uniting union members and other industry players,  MUSIGA national welfare fund,  advocacy and campaigns,  music library, globalizing MUSIGA, finance committee, audit committee, office accommodation, land acquisition,  musical instrument and live bands, rehearsal and recording studios, TV and radio stations, workshops and training programmes, biennial delegates conference/constitutional review among others.

Kofi Duodu, popularly known as Kofi Spirit, one of the members said the industry is like gold but I don’t know if they’re not seeing it or someone is just making fun of it …those managing it don’t have the requisite knowledge in managing such an industry”. I think those managing the industry now are playing with it. Its high time Deborah takes the seat to save musicians.

After a prolonged legal tussle, the Musicians Union of Ghana will hold its elections on January 22 next year. The handing-over ceremony of the executive will also take place on February 11 next year.

In tandem with this, nominations for the various positions, both at the regional and national levels will be opened on 17th September 2021.

A new National Election Committee, appointed by the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey, will oversee the elections.

The election which was initially scheduled for 29th June 2019 was called off after one of the Presidential Aspirants, Ras Caleb Appiah filed for a court injunction due to some anomalies in the voter’s register and the entire voting procedure.

We have an answer in January, barring any untoward occurrences.

Deborah will be our next President – MUSIGA U/W Region

Deborah with musiga members of upper west regionThe presidential aspirant of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Mrs. Deborah Freeman on a days visit to Upper West Region to launch her manifesto, has asked members to vote for her to change the face of Musiga in the Region and the country as a whole.

The Presidential aspirant assured the musicians of Wa and its environs when she visited the region, that she will in her term upgrade the membership registration to a digital platform when they don’t need to travel to Accra to register or renew their membership.

She also assured that her adminstration will work hand in hand with all members and will not support corrupt practices.

“No musician is more musician than the other, when I’m elected President I will make sure the opportunities of this union are available to all regardless of your ethnic or religious background.

We have a long way in the music industry and we’ve witnessed things and seen things, I believe if given the opportunity one day I will work in my capacity to serve my people and my union for the better she noted.

Mrs Deborah Freeman calls on her fellow musicians to support her and her vision until the national executive elections take place.

I had this firm belief and I still do, that, Ghanaian artists are more talented in general. Even until recently, I was so convinced with myself that we make better music than many countries.

Yes, I don’t think so anymore. Don’t get me wrong. We have more talents than them, but they are making better music than us ̶̶ because talent alone is not enough.

Music is universal. if you invest in it strategically and meaningfully, you will reap the benefits of it fruitfully. She opined.

The musicians of the upper west region promised her that they will vote massively for her to become the unions next president to save them.

Presidential aspirant and General Secretary of the Musicians Union of Ghana, (MUSIGA) Mrs. Deborah Freeman. last week took her ‘manifesto launch to the Volta Region.

The launch allowed her to meet with leaders and mu to give them first hand information of what she will do for Musiga when voted into office come January 12, 2022.

She thank them for their massive support being given to her as General Secretary of the union.

I will remain indebted to the musicians of the Volta Region for their overwhelming support in the election that brought me into office as General Secretary.

Mrs Freeman, who is on a “manifesto” tour of the region with the leadership of her campaign team expressed her  appreciation to the members.

She said despite the intimidation during the membership registration, Deborah Freeman will still had an appreciable vote to move on to victory.

She said there had been false statements from opponents that she abandoned her office as General Secretary of MUSIGA  that did not see any development under the Obuor”s administration, describing it as a “palpable falsehood”.

“When we came into office, the former adminstration did not give me the chance to work because I did not support many wrongs happening within the executives.

She challenged her opponents to show evidence of what they are saying.

The region, she promised, would have its fair share of the national cake if she comes to power as president of the union.

She gave an assurance that she would do everything possible in 2022 to ensure that the election was transparent, fair and clean. “We will not want to cheat anybody, we will not make an attempt to cheat anybody, but we will also make sure that nobody cheats us,” she said.

According to her, joblessness among the members, the union‘s growing indebtedness and high levels of corruption were threats to the future survival of the nation, peace and security.

“We have done enough politics over the years; it is time that the focus be shifted to our developmental needs. As it has been acknowledged by others in the past, survival is not the same as prosperity, so the fact that our union continues to hold and survive as one MUSIGA does not suggest that we are that prosperous”.

The union she said, had the resources to turn things around and therefore called on all to support the development of the people.The first thing we need to eradicate in the music industry is Corruption. Second is Nepotism. Third is favoritism. She lamented.

MUSIGA ELECTIONS- DEBORAH FREEMAN LAUNCHES MANIFESTO IN KUMASI TODAY

The Presidential aspirant of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Mrs. Deborah Freeman, has said her manifesto, which will be launched today in Kumasi, will provide a path to turn the Ghana music industry into an advanced one as soon as possible.

Providing some personal reflections on the political substance of the manifesto yesterday, she said: “It is our sacred mission to turn the musicians union of Ghana into an advanced union as soon as possible! It is our moral obligation to be bold and aim at greatness.”

She said what the union saw as “good enough” should not be viewed as such any longer.

“To prosper and thrive, we need fundamental change. We need to set our standards and expectations far higher than good enough! If we settle for ‘good enough, we settle for the slow death of our very soul and our pride,” she said.

Gratitude

The Presidential aspirant expressed gratitude to Ghanaian musicians for the opportunity that was given her to serve as General Secretary of the union for eight years.

“You offered me the humbling chance to serve you— first as special assistant to past presidents of the union, and then as General Secretary for another eight years.

“For this, I will forever be grateful, and I will fight for your well-being, hopes, and rights with all my strength for the rest of my life,” she said.

Why running as President

Mrs. Deborah Freeman said many people were questioning why she was running for President and indicated that she had no problem with that question.

“I know many of you ask this question — sometimes openly, sometimes in silence. Why run as President? It is a fair question and it deserves a fair, personal answer,” she said.

According to her, the manifesto would provide the answer, but she went ahead to say that “it will be a collective answer coming from all the fabulous MUSIGA members and supporters, men and women, who participated in its formulation”.

She explained that the decision to run as President did not come easily, nor quickly.

“I didn’t jump into it. I did it out of a sense of urgency after I began to contemplate more and more thoroughly about our vulnerabilities as a union,” she added.

Legacy

She said she was running for President because she wanted to leave a legacy, one of solid infrastructure, with 100 percent access for all musicians, saying: “With this legacy, we will build a truly developed MUSIGA to be at par with the advanced unions.”

“I know how to do it; part of it I’ve already accomplished, and I feel I have the moral duty to ask the members to vote for me. This is not about me, it’s about Ghanaian musicians,” Mrs. Freeman said.

The General Secretary said MUSIGA could aspire to become developed, and that no society could be truly resilient in the face of crisis and adversity without a solid economic and social infrastructure.

“To create sustainable and ever-growing prosperity — something we all deserve — requires building a robust social and economic infrastructure, one that supports creativity, innovation, and the production of high value-added products and services,” she said.

She said, during her tenure as president of the union, she will take aggressive steps to develop and consolidate health care, educational, transportation, and digital infrastructure.

She said that was the only way to build a resilient union, adding that without creating and consolidating a developed infrastructure, no union could resist global shocks.

True Reflection Of Deborah Freeman’s Manifesto

In conclusion, this manifesto is a true reflection of what Deborah Freeman seeks to do for the Union to the benefit of members. I am full of hope as I trust in the Arbitration and Disciplinary Committee as well as the Election Committee of MUSIGA for their commitment to ensuring free and fair elections. Many thanks to my campaign team for all the hard work. As I count on the support of all and sundry, I believe that my aim of becoming the President of MUSIGA will become a reality. Finally, in agreement with Abraham Lincoln, when given the nod as the President of the Musicians Union of Ghana, my administration will be: Government of the people, by the people, and for the people.

The projects I envisage undertaking during my 1st four-year term are based on the five key thematic areas mentioned above:

  1. UNITY
  1. Stakeholders Engagement

The industry is so polarized to the disadvantage of members and the entirety of industry practitioners. In salvaging this unfortunate situation, my administration will prioritize uniting industry stakeholders. We will institute quarterly stakeholders’ engagements to discuss pertinent issues in the interest of members, the Industry and to develop hand-holding relationships with musicians of all genres in all of the Regions, Radio and TV Presenters, Sound System and Disc Jockeys (DJs), Print and Electronic Media Practitioners; Record Label Representatives; Artistes’ Managers; Producers and Executive Producers; Studio Owners and Managers; Audio CD & DVD Replication Companies; Musical Instruments Dealers and Repairers; Event Organizers and Producers; Performance Venue Owners; Managements of Hotels, Night Clubs, Restaurants; the Leadership of Transport Unions and Associations, among others.

2.  Uniting Union members and other Industry players

My Administration will take steps to bring back to the Union, members who by one way or the other have left the Union.

  1. WELFARE
  1. MUSIGA national welfare fund

My administration will establish systems to improve the welfare needs of members. Key among these systems will be the MUSIGA National Welfare Fund which will be contributed to by members. I will raise seed money to start up the welfare Scheme to cater to aging Musicians, up-and-coming artists, and the entire membership. The welfare fund will be the source of revenue for granting befitting burials for our departed legends.

  1. Advocacy and Campaigns

We will vigorously advocate for the rights of registered members such as rights to royalties and also collaborate with the copyright office to campaign against bad practices such as copyright law infringement that have direct implications for the Work of Musicians.

  1. Music Library

We will establish a Music Library to preserve and celebrate the music of our legends for tourist attractions and for revenue mobilization in support of our aging musicians.

  1. Globalizing MUSIGA

My Administration will expand the boundaries of the Union by creating Chapters in various countries across the globe. These Chapters will be administered by our big Musicians living abroad. This will make the Union more visible globally and also it will create the opportunity for members to have exchange programs with other counties abroad and also have engagements to perform on international platforms.

  1. ACCOUNTABILITY AND TRANSPARENCY
  2. Finance Committee

We will set up a finance committee to oversee the financial administration of the Union.

  1. Audit Committee

In the spirit of accountability and transparency, we will set up an audit committee to delve into the Union’s previous financial matters as well as safeguard the Union’s financial administration going forward.

2. CAPACITY BUILDING AND ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKS

  1. Office Accommodation

We will secure a befitting office accommodation for MUSIGA National Secretariat and for other Regional Branches who do not have office accommodation. We will also create offices in the six new Regions.

  1. Land acquisition

We will acquire lands for all ten Regional Branches to subsequently build permanent Regional offices.

  1. Vehicles

We will acquire Vehicles for the National and Regional Branches for commercial purposes as means of revenue mobilization.

  1. Musical Instrument and live Bands

We will set up MUSIGA National and Regional Musical live Bands, with sets of musical instruments, costumes, vehicles (buses and trucks), and a heavy-duty standby generator for commercial purposes. The Bands will back all artists in initiated concerts and tours. This would also be a revenue stream for the National and Regional offices of the Union.

  1. Rehearsal and Recording Studios, TV and Radio Stations

We will secure for the Head office a fully furnished Rehearsal and Recording Studios. Also, we will establish TV and Radio Stations to promote our Musicians.

  1. Ghana Music and Dance Festival

We will rebrand the Ghana Music Week Festival to celebrate Ghanaian Music, Arts, and Culture annually.

  1. Workshops and Training Programmes

We will undertake leadership/membership development programs and organizational development plans. We will organize Workshops and Training programs for leadership and for members.

  1. Biennial delegates conference /Constitutional Review

We will ensure that we hold the Union’s biennial delegates Conference and do a thorough review of the Union’s Constitution to remove ambiguity and inconsistencies.

TEAMWORK

Synergizing to achieve results through teamwork

We will synergize/collaborate with leadership, members, and industry players to achieve the ultimate goal of this manifesto. As President, I will consult with my team; solicit views and ideas of my executives and other stakeholders in every aspect of my work in order to ensure smooth administration of the Union.
